YourStory International

Associate Director

April - June 2019 • Leogane, Ouest

What I liked

I was able to direct a medical nonprofit, leading 60 undergraduate my age to offer public health and medical services all over our community. I, as a non-medical student was able to globalize medical intervention for my volunteers by contextualizing needs in Haiti against global issues like feminist issues, racialized violence, and contemporary colonialism.

What I wish was different

I was the only leader from my organization in the country at the time, as an undergraduate the pressure to keep advocates safe and healthy was real.

Advice

It takes open mindedness and passion to delve into one's life work. Not qualifications, not degrees, or financial capital to prove one's worth.
