Sales Operations Intern

June 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Premier management and work culture. My manager kept me involved in new projects based on my feedback and all of my coworkers were approachable for guidance. I was able to develop the skills I wanted to and meet with the people whose roles interested me as well. Aside from being a great learning experience, the company culture is very young and lively. There were more than a few company events and my team had great rapport. I felt that I made lasting friendships with my coworkers. I value this highly and feel that it is the main reason I enjoyed this job over others that I have had in the past.

What I wish was different

Return offers are highly headcount dependent and the internship program is not structured with a full-time offer in mind. If I had worked at a bigger company I feel that I would've received a return offer barring unacceptable performance. Instead I was extended to part-time remote since my manager felt that it would be good for me to keep my foot in the door just in case a spot opens up.

Advice

I would recommend always being upfront with your goals. Set them verbally with your manager as early as possible so that he/she can help guide you to achieving them. Even along the way it is important to be vocal and ask for feedback since a manager won't always be direct. These things helped me to succeed far more than anything else since they fostered a healthy working relationship between my manager and I.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Great team, intern events, and a lot of opportunities and encouragement to learn about the industry and the tech stack I was using.

What I wish was different

Not a great office location (next to the Tenderloin in downtown SF). Plus the actual product (customer support software) isn't the most interesting thing in the world.

Advice

Pretty standard software engineering gig; good exposure to a medium size enterprise company that still has the culture and perks of an SF startup.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to stay in the office longer.

Advice

I would advise people to apply to zendesk! They are an amazing company with a comprehensive intern program.
