Zoo New England

Guest Experience

February - August 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

It was a pretty smooth job. Once you got all the information down, it was pretty straight forward. They were also pretty accommodating to you as much as they could. The staff really tries their hardest to be fair even when the circumstances aren't--like with covid.

What I wish was different

Advice

Speak up. If there is a problem, speak up or else it will not get addressed. The supervisors try their best, but they are not mind readers. They won't know what's going on, with either you or some other issue in the zoo unless you tell them. It would also help if you made some friends that you aren't afraid to ask questions frequently because, like with any job, there is a lot of information to absorb within the first few weeks and you might not get it the first time. If you are serving tickets and counting money, be sure to be extra careful with the count. Count your money throughout the day if you can. If not, make sure to double check the cash you recieve from customers and the chnage you return to them. You are responsible with the company's money after all, so accuracy is important.

Education Intern

June - August 2019 • Stoneham, MA

What I liked

I loved working with animals, learning about conservation, and educating people of all ages!

What I wish was different

I wish my advisor could have been more friendly. Also, I wish there was more I could help with, but I was limited as an intern. The days were very hot outside!

Advice

This is an awesome experience if you want to work with animals or have no experience! If you go in and are passionate about educating people then everything else will fall into place
