What I liked
I enjoyed working alongside animals and learning about the variety of species ZooTampa has.
What I wish was different
I loved every part of this internship; however, if I could do it again I would apply for the winter term because in the summer it is extremely hot, humid, and rainy.
Advice
Always bring an extra pair of socks and wear boots because your feet get wet from hosing barns and also from stepping in feces and urine.

Zookeeper Intern

What I liked
I loved this internship. We got to work right along side of the zookeepers and they tried to keep us as involved with decisions as possible. We were in charge of enrichment for the most part and we got to have more interaction than I thought with the animals.
What I wish was different
Zookeepers are extremely busy. They work long hard days and they are underpaid. Because of this I didn’t get to have as much conversation about certain aspects of the job with them as I would have liked.
Advice
The harder you work the more they will recognize you. You want to stand out so you get a great recommendation. You also need to be innovated on how to get things done.
