Procedures. Many things struggle to stay consistent.

This is a great job for campus students who need to make money. It’s flexible, no stress, an s don’t be afraid of asking questions!

What I liked

My boss is incredibly helpful to my career goals and everyone I've met has been friendly and done really well at making me feel like part of the team. My work is challenging but achievable and it feels valuable.

What I wish was different

I wish I had had access to an Amazon Workspace so I didn't have to get other people to pull data for my dashboards for me.

Advice

People think data work is hard - it's not. Don't get caught up in the minutiae of things, just be creative and have an open mind.

I sometimes wish the job was more mentally challenging. I frequently feel quite bored at this job.

Thanks to my boss being friendly and understanding, I was able to make my own schedule over the summer and work anywhere from 0 - 40 hours a week. The environment is very accepting and friendly regardless of experience.

What I wish was different

If anything were to be different, I would wish that there were more summer projects to work on.

Find yourself a job that makes you feel valued and appreciated as both a person and an employee. Positivity can go a long way!

Advice

Higher education is a vast and complex network that involves interaction from all sectors of our lives. If you have never explore careers in higher education, scan the market for jobs in your field related to higher ed, I that you won't find a job related to your field.

What I liked

I am a veteran, so I feel surrounded with like minded people working for the Pat Tillman Veteran Center. Also, I had experience in the position as a federal work-study while studying for my undergraduate and graduate degrees.

What I wish was different

It is difficult to transition from a work-study to a full-time staff member because now you are placed in-charge of those with who you used to work side-by-side.

Advice

Sometimes a part-time position just to fill your financial gaps while attending college can turn into a rewarding full-time career.

Don't be afraid to take charge! Kids who go to camp every year know the system, and can try to take advantage of new counselors. Don't be afraid to tell them no.
