Amazon Warehouse Associate

July - September 2019 • Sussex, NJ

What I liked

The pay was really good. Some of the staff were nice.

What I wish was different

They wouldn't have been so strict and it wouldn't have been the third shift. Also, more hours would've been nice.

Advice

If you're going to work here, you're going to work very hard and for every $ you earn. You'll be sore and sweating the entire time cause of how fast-paced it is.

Accounting Financial Analyst Intern

June - August 2020 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

The work I put into my project is being implemented in the team. I liked that they valued and appreciated my efforts as an intern. The flexible work schedule, frequent communication with manager and mentor, two performance evaluations during the 10-week internship, networking opportunities, free merch the accounting team mailed to us, and lots of events to learn about the team and opportunities in the company were other perks I enjoyed.

What I wish was different

More transparency within the team and with student programs about my project and how to handle certain situations working remotely.

Advice

Be prepared to put a lot of time and dedication into your intern project. Amazon is big on writing memos, so I'd make sure you're okay or comfortable writing frequently during your time here.

Software Development Engineering Intern

May - August 2020 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

The team I was in for the internship is absolutely amazing. The manager is really caring, and was giving feedback each week. My mentor did a great job to direct me during my internship project. Although I made a mistake which caused a sev-2, the manager is kind enough to give me chance to correct my mistake, and gives me a return offer after the internship.

What I wish was different

I wish I will be more caring about my project, as I caused a small trouble during my internship. But it is a great experience to correct your mistake overall.

Advice

Do your own research before asking questions to the manager and the mentor. They are busy, especially during this special time, the COVID19 makes the communication a lot harder, but make sure to speak up when you cannot handle the problem on your own. But the most important thing is, you need to enjoy your work, and learn from your mistake.

Accounting Intern

June - September 2020 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Salary was great, as well as the relocation bonus Amazon gave us. We still got the relocation bonus even though we interned virtually due to COVID. I obviously liked the fact that Amazon didn’t cancel the internship, and kept it a 12-week internship as previously accorded. I also liked how Amazon gave us real meaningful projects, which really impacted the company and the accounting organization.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been in person, but we all know this was not possible due to COVID. I did miss the human interaction part, and I think that made the internship a bit more challenging. Also, I wish my project was more focused on operational accounting or technical accounting, rather than in project management.

Advice

Amazon is a very different and peculiar company. It is unlike anything you have seen or heard before. That being said, people are there to help you. Amazon assigns mentors to every intern, which is great. Do take advantage of your mentor, your buddy, as well as your manage. Ask for help. People understand you’re an intern and you probably have no clue what you are doing or should be doing. It will take you some time, or at least it took me some time, to adjust to Amazon’s fast paced culture. It’s normal, and it’s totally fine.
