Bank of America

Private Wealth Management Intern

January - August 2018 • Provo, UT

What I liked

Gaining real world experience and seeing how things you learn in the classroom are applied when you are actually on the job. Being able to learn from professionals that have been in the industry 20+ years.

What I wish was different

Sometimes I didn't have very much work to do so I would end up with a few hours of just sitting around/ doing random reading. This was more just happenstance rather than BAML doing something wrong with the internship.

Advice

Ask questions. Employees expect you to have a good understanding of concepts but they don't expect you to know everything. Take every opportunity you have to learn something new. I learned a lot from my internship that I was never taught in class.

Global Procurement Summer Analyst

June - August 2017 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I liked the fact that it was project-based, not just completing mundane tasks day to day. We felt like we were making an actual impact.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish had been different was the onboarding process - I wish they had distributed some sort of in-depth description of the Global Procurement department/job responsibilities before day 1.

Advice

Always accept every project given to you, always ask for more work, and always ask for feedback from your boss! Also, network with as many people as you can.

Financial Analyst

June - August 2017 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I thoroughly enjoyed the networking opportunities, the exposure to the company and its high level executives, the difficulty and complexity of the work, and the commitment of the program to my personal and professional development outside of my role (i.e. case study competition and excel training sessions).

What I wish was different

While we did have a few socials and community service projects, I wish that there were more social intern bonding activities structured in the program.

Advice

I would advise a future BoA intern to keep an open mind. There are so many career paths that can be taken and explore within this company so keep your mind open and network with everyone.

summer intern

June - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

Loved exploring Los Angeles and the group of interns I worked with were amazing. I was able to effectively leverage the firm's resources and was able to learn a lot and network with many great people.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to get more of a technical experience. A lot of the work I did was self-initiated and the projects assigned were at times not effectively organized by the administration, given that it was the first year of a new program for financial advisors. The job description was much different than what was going on, which many others also felt.

Advice

Make the most out of the location and be able to take initiative, more often resulting in putting yourself in uncomfortable positions. I was able to gain the most when I put myself out there.
