Bank of America

Advisory Intern

May - August 2021 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Good internship with lots of exposure to the bank and how it makes money

What I wish was different

Online was a challenge. Not many projets that you could speak to in another interview. Very broad overiew of financial markets, mostly focued on sales and building a client base.

Advice

Make you you understand that financial advising is 90% sales, 10% actual advising. If you are fine with that, then this internship is a good experience.

The internship programs across the bank were extremely prioritized and it was quite evident that we were valued. There was a great focus on teaching us the skills we would need to succeed.

Global Transaction Services Summer Analyst

June - July 2020 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I loved how welcoming everyone at the company was. Everyone was willing to talk to you no matter how high in the ranks they were, and I really appreciated that as I got to speak with many people and gain many different perspectives within the company. They transitioned the internship from in person to remote very well for how chaotic the summer was, and they were very understanding.

What I wish was different

I truly wish it had been in person. Obviously would have been under different circumstances, but I got the most out of it being remote. It would have been nice to make that in person connection with people though and meeting the other interns in my office.

Advice

Reach out to as many people as you can, whether it be for the internship or really anything. I've found people are almost always willing to help and get advice if you genuinely want to learn and get better at whatever it is you're doing.

Global Risk Intern

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved the structure of the program— first three weeks were enterprise learning. The following weeks were project/team based.

What I wish was different

I wish it could have been in person but I understand why it couldn't. Also, due to it being remote, we were not given material relative to bank projects.

Advice

Make sure to get to know your bosses/teammates! In a remote setting, it is easy to fall through the cracks, so introduce yourself and make friends.

ADP-Consumer Investments Intern

June - August 2020 • Hopewell, NJ

What I liked

I enjoyed working on the projects we were assigned because I worked with colleagues throughout the world in a remote environment. The first few weeks were focused on learning about the bank its 8 lines of business. During this time we had a refresher about many finance topics such as the markets, time value of money, etc. The remaining weeks are more focused on your specific division where you will meet your mentors and perform work directly related to the role. I enjoyed connecting with my mentors on a weekly basis. By the end of the internship I realized this specific role wasn't for me but I enjoyed my time at the bank

What I wish was different

Due to COVID-19 the internship was fully remote. I would have loved to been in person so that I could engage with colleagues face to face rather than virtual. Sometimes I found myself with a lot of downtime throughout the day.

Advice

Find ways to network with every one you possibly can. Learn as much as possible by asking as many questions as possible. Strive to get your SIE license by the end of the internship if possible or even before you start the internship. It will impress your managers. if you have your SIE license by the time you interview for a full time position, you receive a bonus and will be ahead of everyone else. Work hard and be yourself, People love authenticity

Wealth Management Summer Analyst

June - August 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I love how comprehensive my intern program was despite it being virtual. I was able to understand the breadth of the banking industry through the initial enterprise-wide training program where I learned about the industry and the company as a whole and worked on small projects to enhance my communication and technical skills. I then moved into the line-of-business work (LOB) where I got to do meaningful work and connect with other bank associates across different lines of business.

What I wish was different

Because the program was virtual, all interns did not have access to the bank's confidential and proprietary information. Since my work centered around data research and analysis, the scope of my projects ended up becoming very limited and the work itself was not too challenging for me.

Advice

Networking is important! It's not just about who you know, but also who knows you. If you don't put yourself out there, then no one is going to know who you are and your capabilities. Over the course of my internship, I reached out to many bank associates, and I don't think there was anyone who rejected my request for a networking call. People, especially at Bank of America, do care about your professional development and want to support you as much as possible. Do not be afraid to reach out even to the senior management! The level of support (i.e. the continuous feedback and oversight) that I received definitely made my internship experience phenomenal.
