What I liked

Team is extremely collaborative. Manager is extremely supportive. Culture at company is great, plenty of networking events, and resources to make your experience great. Work on a variety of technologies, and do real world impactful work. Get to directly influence the lives of senior's, which helps motivate future work. Team made sure I had access to all resources to thrive.

What I wish was different

The company is extremely large with tons of moving parts, wish I could adequately understand more about the business aspect.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help, everyone has something important to say and is willing to help out. If you don't ask for help then you're just going to be on an island by yourself.

Software Engineering Intern

June 2022 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

Great culture. Everyone is friendly and appreciates the interns and is willing to help them out. Interns are also often put on full dev teams working alongside full time partners and given a valuable workload that reflects what the team is actually working on.

What I wish was different

Not a lot of variety in development. It is almost all web dev

Advice

If you want to make an impact at this company, be very outgoing and NETWORK. This company gives you a lot of great opportunities to learn and network with other coworkers/leaders/execs at the company. Utilize them. They are your best way to learn more about the company and the people and make yourself known.

Marketing Intern

January 2021 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I've been a Marketing Intern since January of 2021 and love working at Direct Supply! I'm excited every day by all the meaningful and impactful projects and business initiatives I get to be part of. I've been able to learn so much about different areas of marketing- digital, SEO, SEM, content, email, products...the list goes on. I also was able to work on a team project over the summer with 11 other interns from different areas across the company. I find I often learn more about Marketing/applicable business skills more from my internship than I do sitting in classes at school. Beyond work projects, my favorite part about the company would be the people. The Marketing Intern Program Leaders, as well as other leaders across the company, truly care about your success and career development, and I look up to so many of the smart and creative people around me. At Direct Supply, you're not treated as "just an intern" by any means, you're treated as a valuable member of the company and team.

What I wish was different

Nothing I can think of- it's been a great experience since Day 1!

Advice

Work hard, get involved, and network! No matter how big or small a task may seem, give it your all and always try your best. As an intern, you have the opportunity to join the Intern Advisory Board and can help plan and coordinate events for all the interns across the company. It's a great chance to meet other interns and develop your event planning skills. Direct Supply hosts many events where you have the chance to also network and talk with the company's executives, senior leadership team, and department leadership. You're also encouraged to grab lunch and coffee with company leaders to learn more about them, their roles, and their experiences. Make the most of your internship experience here- I can't imagine a better internship and am so grateful to work here!

Supply Chain Intern

May 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

The amazing internship programs! They have a program called The Fellowship specifically for operations and supply chain interns, and another additional internship program. Everyone is very approachable and it is a fun atmosphere. They want to hire you post graduation!

What I wish was different

I wish I had a little bit more exposure to other areas of the business. My leader worked to get me in those areas as much as we could!

Advice

Be open to learning a lot and putting in 110% effort. You will be rewarded for it!

Sourcing

July 2018 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I am in a really strategic position that allows me to guide my suppliers as I see fit. This has lent itself as an incredibly great learning opportunity since the work has not set standards necessarily in how to go about and achieve goals. Multiple strategies can get me to the same end goal.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I would have wanted to be different is that I would have wished for more guidance from peers as to how to problem solve operational/tactical issues that do have very set standards.

Advice

If you are going to work at Direct Supply, it is important to learn all sectors of the business. There is a lot of horizontal movement in the company and this is to your great benefit once you find the area that you best fit (although the role you take on is likely this role).

HR Intern

May - August 2018 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the company. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful when needed. I genuinely enjoyed working with my coworkers.

What I wish was different

The communication with my leader could have been more substantial, but that was partially due to a big rollout of a new program. I also think I earned a higher pay.

Advice

I think that it is important to try something new. While the internship was in the HR department, and my major is graphic design, I was still able to make connections and talk to some of the graphic designers at the company. My skills were also used whenever possible and I was able to take on a small design project for the HR Benefits team!
