Ford Motor Company

Technical Support Analyst

June - August 2020 • Dearborn, MI

What I liked

I loved Ford's culture and the Ford family environment. They placed a huge emphasis on soft skills and working together. I loved that even though COVID resulted in many internships being cancelled, Ford decided to keep the internship going and shipped me a laptop to be able to meet with them every day.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have gotten a little more experience in job shadowing. Other than that the experience was amazing!

Advice

What I wish was different

From a virtual standpoint, everything was fantastic. The interns had all the support necessary to successfully complete their projects. Multiple networking events were hosted and the opportunity to ask questions was always there.

Wheels and Tires Summer Intern

June - August 2020 • Dearborn, MI

What I liked

Ford created a foundation for which summer interns, while remote, would feel comfortable and be able to learn about their company. They cultivated their summer intern program to not only tell their culture but to demonstrate it. It was a wonderful experience. Having both a Ford Employee and a Ford College Graduate as a mentor allowed me to meet more people throughout the company and ask questions that came to mind. Ford also offered multiple avenues to get involved and engage with more people in a casual and fun manner.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been able to be in person, so that I might have had a more hands-on experience, but due to Covid-19 that was unattainable. Ford did a wonderful job navigating the world situation in order to allow interns to still have a job.

Advice

Ask what your expectations are so that you know what you need to do. Don't be afraid to ask for help because it is essential that teams work together to complete projects. Have fun and get involved.

Manufacturing Finance Intern

May - August 2019 • Wayne, MI

What I liked

My team and my project. My manager, supervisor, and fellow analysts were great. My daily tasks and projects were fun too. I really felt like I was apart of the team since my very first day. Everyone was so helpful and welcoming-even those who I didn't work directly with. When it came to my project, I ultimately was responsible for doing the work myself, but I did receive great assistance from everyone. They truly wanted to see me succeed.

What I wish was different

My summer housing. I lived too far away from the rest of the interns; further away from Detroit.

Advice

Be prepared to learn a lot! Take advantage of intern opportunities and events and ask as many questions as you can to ensure that you understand your project.

TSA intern

May - August 2019 • Allen Park, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed getting to know the job that Ford hires a lot of automotive students to do. Along with receiving the same training that new hires do, we were able to visit other parts of the company and see what other opportunities there are.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have done an internship before my senior year. This opportunity lead to a job and it would have been beneficial to do with different companies.

Advice

If there are any companies visiting the campus, take advantage of it and interview or talk with them. Even if you do not know if you want to work for that specific company, this will give you an opportunity to find out more about them. Internships are also very important. It gives you and the company you intern with 3 months to basically interview each other. If you don't want to work for them, there is no long term commitment but you have gained experience that may help you receive other job offers.
