What I liked

At The Home Depot, I had the opportunity to work on a project that directly impacted the success of my function. I worked alongside individuals who challenged me and helped me to become a more successful professional. I also had the chance to present in front of executive leadership and receive feedback on how to improve my personal work and my presentation skills. There was nothing I didn't like about interning with The Home Depot.

Advice

Take opportunities with internships to get to know the people around you. Meet them for coffee, ask them to lunch, find the opportunity to learn more about their backgrounds as you continue navigating your own. As you do this, pay attention to the culture of the company you're working for. Make sure how people speak about it is how you want to feel about your employer.

I worked on a great project that will be impactful to the company. I met so many amazing people including other interns and employees. I was able to grow my professional network.

I wish I had more time to explore other departments within the company.

Advice

Network. So much of my project relied on getting feedback from others. I had to schedule meetings and ask a lot of questions. Don't be afraid to reach out to others because they may help further you career.

A lot of questions customers asked required associates to be experienced in the skills and tools their department offers. New employees are jumped right into the action and need the ability to act quickly on their feet and outsource if necessary.

I loved learning new things about sales and how to approach customers and sell products. I also loved learning about all the different plants and products we had to offer

We seemed to be short staffed a lot, which made it hard to service all the customers to the best they deserved.

Advice

Definitely pay attention in training, there are lots of resources you will learn to use which are helpful in assisting customers and understanding your job expectations.

Work was largely outdoors and kept me moving. The environment was generally positive and most of the fellow employees are always helpful whenever I wasn't sure about anything.
