Ross Dress for Less

Retail Associate

June - August 2019 • Fontana, CA

What I liked

This was the first job I ever had and for the most part I really enjoyed working there and I am very grateful for the opportunity they offered me.

What I wish was different

I wish the my weekly hours were scheduled at different times. Because I wasn't experienced at all and the massive amount of customers that shop at night was really overwhelming at times. But soon I overcame it and felt much more comfortable.

Advice

I would suggest that you push through the overwhelming mess and people because working at Ross Dress For Less was a lot of work, but I enjoyed the experience because this opportunity allowed me to grow as a person.

What I liked

I liked that they offered my first ever job, and how nice all my coworkers are. I became friends with my coworkers immediately they welcomed me into there work family on my first day and I felt very comfortable, especially since i'm a very shy person.

What I wish was different

Nothing, everything at Ross is perfect. My coworkers made me feel welcomed as soon as I started working there. I learned to work fast which has helped how fast I get things done now. I used to be very shy and with working there I have found myself become more outgoing and have found myself speaking up more.

What I liked

The pay was good and it was easy to get to from my house. The other employees were nice and friendly.

What I wish was different

The work was overly hectic and the methods they employed to track cashier performance we're often not directly influencable by the cashier and greatly increased anxiety as a result. Customers were also frequently rude or disgusting people.

Ross Cashier

May 2018 • Brighton, CO

What I liked

I like how it's always busy, so there is always something to do.

What I wish was different

I wish that the company itself would take time to care for it's customers more. Cashiers are timed, so it feels like everything has to be rushed not giving us enough time to make a meaningful connection with the customers. It feels very robotic at times.

Advice

Experience of any kind, good and bad, is resourceful for your future.

Sales Associate

June - September 2018 • Delano, CA

What I liked

The relationships built with other coworkers made our job a little bit easier, considering that we would all work together as a team, and also have that nonchalant mood with each other but also get down to business as well. You also meet many customers from different places, not knowing who you'd meet.

What I wish was different

More associates working on the sales floor during hectic rush hours would have been easier, instead of leaving someone to stay on the task all over the sales floor, since you are working with clothes with many departments, and having only one person can be very overwhelming when trying to clean up the store.

Advice

Ross Dress for Less is very hectic, considering that it is a discount store and there are many thing sold in it. It is a fast-paced job, but you do get the hang of everything once it's well-adapted in your mind, in which it'll become easier to do your job but still feel very overwhelmed with what situations come.
