Sherwin Williams

Sales/Management Intern

May - August 2018 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I think retail is something that everyone needs to experience in their lifetime. It is a key factor in many businesses and having the experience can give you a different perspective in the workforce and help influence future decisions you make within a company. Learning and impacting a business as large as Sherwin Williams has really helped me understand the aspects of both the corporate and retail fields. Sales helped me to get out of my comfort zone, build customer service and interpersonal communication skills and most importantly, generate revenue for the company.

What I wish was different

Not much, I wish to go corporate more in the future, verse retail.

Advice

I had an amazing boss and I think that really made my experience much better. Even if you don't connect with your boss or co workers, its important to know the internship is there to help you gain the skills you need for the real world, and I think that should be the main takeaway you should get from internship.

Management and Sales Intern

June - August 2018 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

In this internship you are introduced to a new way of looking at paint. As an intern, you shadow the managers and learn the systems and sales process of the business, as well as, make cold calls, warm calls and even set up some in store events. You also have the opportunity to go on multiple ride a longs with the Sherwin Williams sales representatives and meet with clients at the store, on the job site or even for lunch. You also team up with the other interns within your district to work on a project that will be presented at a conference at the end of the summer experience. I really enjoy the culture of the company. They are very welcoming and the manager, assistant manager and sales representatives are always willing to help or answer any questions.

What I wish was different

There is nothing I would change about their internship program.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions, the managers are there to help you and they want you to succeed.

marketing and sales intern

May - August 2019 • Louisville, KY

What I liked

What I enjoyed most about my internship with Sherwin Williams was the amount of support and training I received from not only my manager but sales reps, sales VP, regional manager and many others. I felt i was given different views from and role from any prospectives within the company.

What I wish was different

I do wish that I spend more time outside the district store. A lot of my time was spend physically making and selling paint. I would have like to work more with Sales reps and in the district office.

Advice

One piece of advice i would share about my experience is to ask as many questions as you can about the position or internship. It will give you the best idea to reflect what you are walking into and if you think will be a good fit!

Advice

It is important to learn about all of the other career positions within the company. You are not learning how to be an intern, more so what other opportunities are there to explore. Learning what brought other employees to this company, and their life paths, will help you to get more value from the experience.

Sales and Management Intern

June - September 2023 • Bend, OR

What I liked

I loved my coworkers and how helpful they were. They taught me so much about the company and how to do my job best. Sherwin is also very kind to their employees and have many benefits. It is a great company to work for.

What I wish was different

I think the organization could have been a little better. The internship priorities were kinda random and were hard to follow. Random meetings would pop up that I didn't know about, and I had another job so it was hard when I wasn't given a time range.

Advice

Just ask as many questions as you can as an intern, and your coworkers will help, and you'll learn fast if you are just present and ask questions.

Retail Associate

July 2018 • Provo, UT

What I liked

My coworkers are great and the work schedule has been the most consistent I have ever had at a job.

What I wish was different

I am not sure what has caused it, but the training situation at Sherwin Williams is kind of slow if you get on in the summer as not an intern.

Advice

Ask a lot of questions. Don't assume you know how the paint or system works.
