Sherwin Williams

Sales and Management Intern

May 2019 • Janesville, WI

What I liked

I learned a lot about the company and industry and Sherwin Williams treats their interns really well. We were able to do a project and present it in Chicago and it was really fun meeting other interns and a great learning experience.

What I wish was different

I wish I would've learned more about management and sales. When I was in the store I was treated more as a sales associate instead of an intern.

Advice

I would say that if you are interested in a retail carrer you should check Sherwin Williams out because they are a good company and treat their employees well.

Supply Chain Management Intern

June - August 2019 • San Salvador, San Salvador Department

What I liked

I learned and implemented an inventory policy regarding the percentage of each product participation regarding to the total revenue for all 7 countries of Central America. Also, I dealt with suppliers from China and Japan to make these products arrive faster by shortening their lead times. I also brought to light large amounts of obsolete inventory at their warehouses. I also liked that i got more practice using excel by analyzing large amount of data using it.

What I wish was different

Everything was perfect

Advice

Always be willing to learn and not be afraid of saying “I dont know how to do this or that” you are there to learn!

Stores General Accounting Co-op

October 2018 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

Great experience at a Fortune 200 company that allowed me to do real work while going to school. Flexible hours and laid back coworkers made work fun and allowed me to complete work at a comfortable steady pace. Experience I learned in this role have helped me land a full-time audit position in the company. Lots of opportunity, and your network within the company grows very quickly.

What I wish was different

Not much. I wish I could have taken on some bigger projects, but still a very good workload/ project load.

Advice

Great experience for someone attending Cleveland State. It is very convenient to be able to work at Sherwin Williams and then come back to class. A perfect way to earn professional experience and attend school at the same time.

What I liked

I enjoyed the people I worked with and the work I was doing. I improved my communication skills and learned a ton about paint. I had no idea how much went into selling paint.

What I wish was different

If I were to change one thing, I would have liked the chance to work more. I had a great time and really don't have any complaints. I would have liked to be able to have input as I had some ideas I thought could be beneficial to the store.

Advice

I would say get to know the people you are working with, because you will be seeing them a lot, and things go more smoothly if you can have fun while you're at work.

Sales Associate

May - August 2018 • Boise, ID

What I liked

I loved the fast-paced environment and the community of working there. Sherwin-Williams gives you a good job of instilling pride in the company and also in your work. I was trained well.

What I wish was different

When I came into the position, the manager had just quit, and Sherwin-Williams took way too long to replace her. The Assistant Manager was doing double duty. In the course of the months that I worked there, the crew of 5 people dwindled to 3-4 people, and finally, by the end of the summer, they had hired enough people to run the store with 7-8 people. It was a stressful summer to say the least.

Advice

Have an open mind, and work hard. Listen at every opportunity, because there is always something to learn. Don't quit right away, and it could take up to 3 months to feel remotely comfortable in your work. All in all, a fantastic place to work, and hope to work there again someday, possibly after college.
