Sonic Drive-In

Sonic Drive Thru Shift Manager

June 2017 • Hopkinsville, KY

What I liked

Working at Sonic is honestly amazing. I've worked there for over 2 years now and I couldn't ask for a better job to have while attending school. My manager works around any schedule I give her and always accepts days I need to schedule off for something school related. Additionally, the people are friendly. I've made some great friends in the years I've worked at this location.

What I wish was different

Honestly, the only thing I would change is having to deal with some of the customers. It's fast food so I don't exactly expect happy customers every time, but some of them are just extremely rude for no reason. I'm not a very confrontation person, so those once in a blue moon moments when I have to go tell a customer to kindly leave the premises because I can't have them yelling and cussing at our minor employees can really ruin your day.

Advice

Working at Sonic is great. They're very flexible with schedules and overall it's a pretty stress free environment once you get used to the job. All I could really say is take is seriously. I understand if it's just a part time job, but if you decide the job isn't for you just tell the manager that and put in your 2 weeks. They won't be mad and it'll give them time to find someone else.

It was extremely flexible for students who were committed to summer school while working a part-time job. The manager was understanding and generous with our time.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed there longer with the same manager. A new manager was hired and he was extremely rude to customers. That is not an experience I want to be a representative of.

Advice

It is an amazing opportunity for a first job! Definitely try to climb up the ranks to manager!
