The Country Club of Virginia

Pool Deck Supervisor

May - August 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

I love the atmosphere of the club. I've worked there 4 years and its always a pleasure going back.

What I wish was different

I wish I wasn't taking classes at the same time.

Advice

A piece of advice I would share is just do the job. Don't overthink it or let yourself be tired, just enjoy everyday and being outside and enjoy the people you get to meet, they have fascinating lives.

Food and Beverage Intern

May - August 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

During this internship program I rotated between three food and beverage outlets and gained event planning experience. The rotation allowed me to learn about and reflect on my own management style by shadowing three managers in three different departments. Each location helped me fully grasp the friendly and encouraging culture as well as familiarize myself with a larger number of valued members.

What I wish was different

The motto for The Country Club of Virginia is "evolution to excellence through continuous improvement" and it is true that the team at CCV is always striving to achieve this motto. My feedback on other ways to improve would be to develop more structure to their training practices with interns and line-level employees.

Advice

Set a goal for yourself. Once you have set that goal, give yourself a pep-talk before every shift on what you want to accomplish that day, what you want to change or improve on, remind yourself of responsibilities, and don't forget to smile. It makes a long day feel shorter, smoother, fun, and rewarding!

Accounting Intern

May - July 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

Work was consistent and manageable but always kept me busy, it was rare that there was down time.

What I wish was different

I perhaps would have preferred a more involved role but, by nature of the position, that’s not what was needed.

Advice

The best way to succeed in the position is to be able to remain a social and friendly part of the work place while simultaneously being able to, when needed, put your head down and get things done.

Server

May - August 2019 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

I liked that servers were automatically given 20% gratuity since everything was charged to the member’s account.

What I wish was different

I wish staffing had been more under control. Was either super overstaffed or super understaffed.

Advice

Get comfy shoes! Seriously!
