About University of Dayton UDRI Applied Mechanics

The Applied Mechanics Division conducts research and development related to aerospace, ground, industrial, and test systems. We perform fundamental research into advanced concepts and design tools for next generation systems, and applied research to develop and achieve new systems capabilities. We specialize in problem solving – identifying root causes to complex technical problems, then conducting engineering design, analysis, and testing to develop, validate and transition solutions. Areas of expertise include theoretical and computational solid mechanics, aero/thermodynamics and heat transfer, material modeling, solid modeling and system design, reverse engineering, failure analysis, problem diagnosis and solution development, multi-axis structural-mechanical testing, test system development, vibrations, electrical design, precision metrology, and impact physics (including foreign object damage, penetration mechanics, armor protection, hypervelocity impact, high strain rate material characterization, and ballistics).
