Apply for internships that look awesome even if it seems like you might not be able to swing it, because I never would have pictured myself in this position and it was so amazing!

What I liked

Uplift Solutions is a reentry program that helps people that have been previously incarcerate get back into the workforce. We are partnered with local ShopRites and Fresh Grocers that offer all of our graduates a 100% guaranteed job after their completion of our 6 week program. With that said, I love people able to work with everyone and hear the stories they have to share. I love receiving their feedback about the life-skills coaching we provide and listening in on what their favorite exercise was. We have spoken to many Parole officers who have said that they can see a change in people that come to our program, and that is what makes interning here so worthwhile.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish we could change is how many people that we get to help. In about a years time we help about 4 cohorts that each have about 30 participants. Uplift is a non-profit organization; therefore, we don't have the means to provide more classes besides the one class each cohort period.

Advice

Get out of your comfort zone.! Being assertive and having a "I mean business" face was hard for me because I felt that it didn't fit with my personality. I always try to keep an open mind and I felt that the assertive trait wouldn't fit, but that has changed and for the best.
