What I liked

I loved the full-time people I had the chance to work with, the amount of responsibility given, and the culture of Accenture. It's a culture of work hard play hard, and keeping employees for the long run instead of having a high turnover rate.

What I wish was different

I wish I knew how much video conferencing and Excel was involved in the job, and that the majority of the office only comes in two times a week so it's mainly just a few people and the interns the rest of the time

Advice

Don't hesitate to ask questions early on, especially if you don't understand something on the computer! Also, get to know the people in the office beyond those you work with.

What I liked

I appreciated the opportunity to improve my skill sets in technical, business, and leadership contexts. Every employee I met from analyst to senior leadership was extremely willing to help me advance my career.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked at Accenture for 12 weeks instead of 10, however I am very excited to return again next fall.

Advice

Applicants need to be professional, sharp, and willing to adapt to any situation. The project environment can be extremely variable, and therefore it is important to be both intellectually curious an agile.

Advice

Get know anyone who's involved in anything you are actually interested in. The culture at Accenture welcomes curiosity, just make sure to always say thank you!

What I liked

The hands-on supply chain foundational experience in the warehouse was valuable.

What I wish was different

I wish we as interns didn't have to do busy/mundane/not mind work most of the time. It didn't sit well with my brain, I really wanted to be thinking of new solutions to problems! (because ETS runs with inefficiencies!)

Advice

Definitely be prepared to stand and move all day on your feet, 8-4:30.

What I liked

I liked learning the ins and outs of a warehouse that uses my major i am learning.

What I wish was different

I wish the interns and I had more responsibility and more of a clear direction as to what we were supposed to be doing. Also, I wish it was a desk job rather physical labor.

Advice

I would say know how to communicate to different types of people. Whether it be businessmen and women or everyday people not in corporate, know how to talk so that you can connect with them and network yourself.

Technology Summer Analyst

What I liked

I liked that I was not just treated as an intern (getting coffee, filing, etc.). I was treated as a full-time Analyst and was given large amounts of responsibility. I also really enjoyed getting to network with other interns and employees and expand my network and knowledge about the industry I hope to join.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to start earlier! Accenture only offers two large on-boarding times (one for semester students and one for quarter students), and the one for quarter students started at the end of June. I wish I could have started right after finishing finals.

Advice

Ask questions and don't be afraid to take initiative. People are always going to be busy but if you make your presence known they will treat you with more respect and maybe even give you a cool new project to work on!

What I liked

As a consultant, there are a variety of projects you can work on. And if you do not like a specific job, you can look for a new project as soon as the current one is done. Or if the project is long term, you can work with HR to find a roll-off date and a replacement. My company is also very invested in their employees personal growth, both in and out of work. There many volunteer opportunities and classes you can partake in.

What I wish was different

I wish I had found this job sooner. It took me an entire year to find a full time office job.

Advice

Be open to try new things. Not all occupations have a "shoe-in" college major. Accenture will hire consultants with all backgrounds due to their presence in nearly every industry and expertise.They primarily look for active minds and problem-solving attitudes. Also, if it is taking you awhile to find your permanent job, try to stay mentally active by volunteering or continuing your studies (not necessarily by going back to school). This will show interviewers that you are active, self-motivated, and are willing to improve yourself.

As a consultant, there is a wide variety of jobs and projects I can do. If I do not like a specific job, I can search for something new as soon as the project is over. With Accenture's vast network, there are available projects in almost every industry and expertise.

What I wish was different

I wish I had found my current job sooner. It took me a year to have a full time office job.

Be open to trying something new. What I liked

During my time at Accenture, my team gave me a tremendous amount of responsibility. They really trust you and depend on you as if you were a full time analyst. This not only reflects in the deliverables they give you, but also in the face time you get with senior clients. As a summer analyst, I was given the opportunity to take ownership over a main deliverable, working with VPs and senior level leaders to develop a product they felt proud of. This kind of responsibility and face time is something that many of my friends at other firms were not given and for that I am so grateful not to mention stronger because of it.

What I wish was different

While my hours were not atypical to the industry, I wish I had known that as a summer analyst, your hours can be quite long. Although, I suppose it is a good thing that Accenture treats their summer analysts as they would full time analysts. At least you know you are getting a realistic depiction of what the job really looks and feels like. I also wish that there had been more programming throughout the summer with fellow summer analysts. Since everyone is dispersed throughout the metropolitan area at various client sites, if you don't go into Accenture offices on Friday then you don't really get the opportunity to meet and bond with your fellow summer analysts. I highly, highly recommend you go into Accenture's office on Friday for this very reason. Otherwise, you only see summer analysts during the two or so scheduled activities throughout the summer.

Advice

During your time at Accenture you must advocate for yourself and ensure you are getting the kinds of opportunities and experiences that will allow you to grow. If you are not getting the kinds of experiences you want or the kinds you feel you need, speak up. Everyone at Accenture is so open and receptive that if you put in the effort to propose a thoughtful plan to do something, most likely you will be given the okay to go ahead and see it through. With that said, you should always search for ways to add value to both your team and client. The onus is on you to do so and most likely no one will lay out a direct path for you. My advice: find pleasure in the small things, like creating a weekly newsletter for your team or organizing a team dinner. These small acts do not go unrecognized and will go a long way in demonstrating your dedication and commitment to the team. Lastly, do not be afraid to bring in new knowledge. If you have something to share, share it. If you have a new, more efficient way of doing something, propose its implementation. Speaking up and adding value are some of the best ways that you can be recognized and helps you stand out as an intern.

What I liked

Accenture has a great summer internship program! You get the chance to be an integral part of a team producing client deliverables. In this setting you work with other analysts, managers, and occasionally interface with company leadership as well as you support the team and the client. Additionally, there are tons of opportunities to meet other interns and build your Accenture network. The quality / interest of the work depends on the project (which is life in consulting), but generally most interns like their experience.

What I wish was different

You have no say in the project you are placed on. This is totally understandable (staffing interns is very difficult since its a huge supply of relatively low skill employees all at one time), but at the same time, I would have selected a different project if I had the chance. That being said, everything is a learning opportunity.

Advice

Take a positive mindset into your project. Focus on maintaining this. Naturally, entry-level work is not always the most interesting, but if you see your working fit into the bigger picture, and focus on learning and developing, you'll find satisfaction.

Get close with your team buddy, as they will be the one that will be providing you feedback on your performance, which can lead to them also determining whether or not you get a return offer.
