What I liked

It's a great place for diversified learning, especially as a first job out of college. I appreciate the breadth of skills that I have the opportunity to absorb, and all the avenues of growth that consulting at Accenture has to offer.

What I wish was different

Advice

It's important to do your research on the firm and its practices prior to interviews and conversing with the recruiters - it's okay not to know everything, but it's never impressive to know nothing. Ask questions at events to get to know more and fill in the gaps on what you don't understand, but showing up without having done any research on your own doesn't fare well with any potential employer.

What I liked

Working in Accenture Strategy provided me with a fabulous opportunity to engage in the long-term strategic planning of a big box electronics retailer. Furthermore, since I was working on a traveling project, I was able to experience much of what working in consulting full-time would be like. This, coupled with the training and networking that the firm provided made my summer very exciting and educational.

What I wish was different

Pre-internship training was a bit lacking. While there is a week of onboarding prior to heading out to the client site, some greater effort to enhance the baseline skills of interns, many of whom aren't coming from a business or technical background, would increase the quality of the experience they can get from the internship and enhance the contributions that they can provide to their teams.

Advice

Accenture is a massive company and there isn't really a set framework or path to follow. This can be a bit daunting, but it also provides a huge opportunity to network within the firm and pursue the opportunities that you want to. While you're here, my biggest advice is to NETWORK!

Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved working for Accenture this past summer. They have an amazing internship program that fostered an inclusive environment and treated me like another full-time employee. Accenture doesn't believe in using the term "intern" and instead, they are called "analysts". Nobody on my client team would know I was the intern if I did not say so. This really set the tone for the summer and I felt valued for the work I was doing. I felt as though I could make a real contribution to the company.

What I wish was different

I wish during my internship, I could have received the opportunity to have more feedback. While the internship was well organized, it lacked a formal process for providing feedback from my supervisor. Feedback is a great learning process and I would like to receive and apply that feedback to future positions.

Advice

I would tell people to network and connect with as many people as possible. I learned everyone at Accenture was very willing to sit down and answer any questions I had, however, I didn’t realize this until the end of my internship. If I could redo anything, I would have reached out to more people within the company sooner and scheduled quick coffee meetings with them. You can learn so much from the people who have been in the company for years. They are more often than not willing to help you out and they are great resources for the future.

Summer Analyst

What I liked

This summer I am worked with a world-renown consulting firm, Accenture. My experience here has taught me a great amount about how to navigate the cooperate world and generate connections.

What I wish was different

In my experience with Accenture this summer I would have enjoyed to have a supervisor that also fulfilled a mentorship role with me. I would have liked to receive more feedback and constructive criticism.

Advice

I suggest any student interested in interning with Accenture, or any consulting firm, to approach the opportunity with an open mind and absorb as much as you can from the people you meet. Creating connections is key to expanding your opportunities and attaining information about the corporate world from people who have expertise.

Advanced App Engineering Analyst

June - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I loved the many people within the company, the culture, and the opportunity to be a part of a team on a client site as an intern. I got to do actual work, and at the same time I met so many people and had a lot of fun. Accenture really pushes its events and networking, and there were plenty of opportunities to do so. They also flew all of their interns to a training center in Chicago for one weekend and it was an absolute blast. My summer at Accenture provided me with three things: good experience, lots of opportunities to network, and great new connections.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been on a different client project. Obviously not every project is as exciting as the next, and it was just the luck of the draw. Otherwise I don't really have any other complaints. Very great internship experience with the opportunity for a full-time position afterwards.

Advice

Meet people and go to events! There are so many amazing people in the company, and so many opportunities to meet others from various backgrounds. The company believes its people are its most important asset, so it's definitely worth getting to know many of them.

Consulting Summer Analyst

June - August 2018 • Houston, TX

What I liked

My team gave me a lot of responsibility and chances to grow, and they did so very thoughtfully. I felt by the end of the summer that they came to rely on me as a productive part of the team, and not just as an intern they had to look out for.

What I wish was different

The client site affects your experience greatly since you are there 4 days of the week, and I didn’t like the site that I was at.

Advice

Be confident in what you can offer. It’s easy as an intern or young professional to assume that the seasoned employees know how to do the job better, but if you don’t trust yourself, you will never step out enough to make a significant impact on your team.

What I wish was different

More consistent delegation of tasks throughout my internship experience
