camp counselor
May - August 2020 • Oshkosh, WI
What I liked
I liked working with the kids and planning fun activities for them. I also liked working with my coworkers and getting to know them.
What I wish was different
I wish the management had been different. Our camp director left the position half way through the summer and the interim director didn't put much time or effort into helping us stay on ratio and having all of the materials we needed.
Advice
Stay positive! Things get really stressful at times, but you have to understand that kids are kids, and they all have bad days every once and a while.

Summer Camp Counselor
May 2017 • Lakewood Ranch, FL
What I liked
As this was my first job after high school, I really liked being able to lead others. This job really helped improve my organizational and communication skills.
What I wish was different
One thing that I wish had been different is the organization of leadership. There were times when nobody really knew what was going on and we had no direction. The space that we had was limited to hold a camp with a few hundred children, but there is not much that could be changed about that due to the small property size.
Advice
One piece of advice that I would share about this experience would be to always communicate with the other counselors and supervisors. Communication is important in any job, but that is one thing that I learned especially in this one.

Kid Zone Attendant
June - August 2020 • Newton, KS
What I liked
I loved working with the kids! My boss was also very nice and worked with me when I needed a shift covered.
What I wish was different
My first few shifts felt a little overwhelming because it was very much a "learn as you go" type of job. I could only do the bare minimum my first few shifts because I was still learning the details of what my job entailed.
Advice
Do not be afraid to ask questions! If I would have been less afraid to ask questions, my first few shifts probably would have not been so overwhelming.
